Overview:

The 1914 Shiraz is produced EXCUSIVELY from one of the most significant plantings of genuine aged shiraz vines in the Barossa Valley, located on the Hahn homestead property, between Nuriootpa and Tanunda.
Hermann Hahn planted these wines in 1914 and they are now entering their 87th year (in 2001). Old gnarled trunks restrict yield and berry size and produce unique flavours after struggling for nearly a century in the Australian sun.
Through its limited production of single vineyard wines, JJ Hahn amins to preserve its part of the heritage of the Barossa Valley and allow the produce from this historic vineyard the opportunity to reach its potential.

Winemakers: Rolf Binder & James Hahn

Tasting Notes:
Opaque black purple colour with deep purple hue. Aroma of violet, ripe plum, dark chocolate followed by a hint of liquorice. The palate is generous, loaded with mouth filling flavours of liquorice, mocha and dark chocolate. Fine grained tannins, with aftertaste of dark chocolate and coffee.

History of JJ Hahn

Johann Christian Hahn and his wife Maria arrived in South Australia in January 1839. They sailed on the ‘Catherina’ from Hamburg, being Lutherans from the area of Posen in what was then Prussia. In 1845, Christian purchased land in the Barossa Valley in the Siegersdorf-Dorrien area, north of Tanunda and the family settled there in 1846.

Early settlers to the Barossa were able to stake out the best of the valley’s farmland and the Hahns also seized the opportunity. They would have operated a mixed farm with the first vines planted on the property in 1914 by Hermann Hahn (3rd generation). By the 1970s, the property was fully planted with vines.

Grape growing became the Hahn family way of life and six generations later, James and Jackie Hahn continued that legacy, living and working on the land originally purchased by Christian Hahn.

Buying At Auction?

Your Questions, Answered

What do you need from me to get started?

We will need you to confirm that you are over 18 (for obvious reasons!) and to open an account by registering on the site. This will include provision of credit card details for any eventual purchases. You will also need to sign that you have read the terms and conditions.

How many wines are in each Lot?

You will see the quantity (number of bottles) stated above the price. Please note that the bid-price is per bottle so you will need to multiply the price by the number of bottles in the lot to calculate the total price of the lot.

Can I cancel my bid if I change my mind?

All bids are final - please think before you confirm your bid.

How much is the Buyers' Commission?

We have an extremely competitive buyers' commission of 16.5% (GST inclusive). This will be added to the final winning price of your Lot at the end of the auction.

What are your freight charges?

Please see our Delivery Policy for full details relating to freight.

Is there a Guarantee on my wine?

Under Australian law, consumer guarantees do not apply to goods purchased at auction - all such purchases are at the risk of the Buyer. We will always provide as much detail as we can as to the visual condition and provenance of each Lot, however this is done so as a guide rather than as a guarantee.
