Introduction: Join us as we explore the illustrious journey of Greenock Creek Wines, a stalwart in the world-renowned Barossa Valley. This profile celebrates the winery's history, its exceptional wine portfolio, and its contribution to the region's vinicultural prestige.
History and Evolution: Founded in 1988 by Michael and Annabelle Waugh, Greenock Creek Wines started with a small parcel of land in the Barossa Valley, South Australia. Originally purchasing the property for its original settlers' cottage, the Waughs quickly transformed the surrounding land into one of the area's most revered vineyards. Over the years, the winery has expanded to include seven vineyards, each offering a unique contribution to the distinctive wines produced.
In 1994 the Roennfeldt Road property was purchased, consisting of approximately six acres of very old Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache vines, and around eight acres of apricot orchard. The 1995 vintage was the first release of the Roennfeldt Road Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz; wines that were to become the flagship of the Greenock Creek range.
The vineyards are all dry grown so production is dependent on seasonal conditions, and the ultra-premium red wines are produced only from grapes grown on the property, making it a true boutique winery.
