Robert Parker describes DAVE POWELL as "unquestionably one of the world’s finest wine producers (who) has an uncanny ability to discover old vine Barossa vineyards and then secure long term contracts for them."

The Struie is made from 40 year old vines grown in the Eden Valley and 80 year old Barossa vines. 18 months barrel maturation occurs in a combination of new and old French oak. The Eden Valley component imparts delicate spice, white pepper and fruit characters, while the Barossa component displays a richer, deeper, more brooding flavour and intensity. The vines are low yielding and dry grown. An impressive red. Opaque black crimson colour with black crimson hue. Perfumed nose, with top notes of violets followed by dark plum and spice. The palate has excellent weight with ‘joosy’ mouthfeel. Flavours of chocolate, spice and plum are overlaid with a touch of vanilla. Fine grained tannins. Aftertaste of plum, vanilla, chocolate and spice.

Reviews

Good colour; bursting with layers of juicy, sweet, blackberry, plum, cherry and dark chocolate fruit flavours; oak and tannins just a backdrop.

94 points- "James Halliday - 2007 Australian Wine Companion"

The 2004 The Struie is 100% Shiraz from 40-60-year old and 120-year old vineyards. Half of the fruit is from the Eden Valley and half from the Barossa, and the wine spends 18 months in French oak (20% new). An exotic bouquet of blackberries and other sweet fruits is followed by a full-bodied, powerful, rich red with great purity as well as focus, a laser-like precision, huge intensity, and a blockbuster finish that lasts nearly a minute. It will be even better with 2-3 more years of bottle age, and should last for two decades.

Buying At Auction?

Your Questions, Answered

What do you need from me to get started?

We will need you to confirm that you are over 18 (for obvious reasons!) and to open an account by registering on the site. This will include provision of credit card details for any eventual purchases. You will also need to sign that you have read the terms and conditions.

How many wines are in each Lot?

You will see the quantity (number of bottles) stated above the price. Please note that the bid-price is per bottle so you will need to multiply the price by the number of bottles in the lot to calculate the total price of the lot.

Can I cancel my bid if I change my mind?

All bids are final - please think before you confirm your bid.

How much is the Buyers' Commission?

We have an extremely competitive buyers' commission of 16.5% (GST inclusive). This will be added to the final winning price of your Lot at the end of the auction.

What are your freight charges?

Please see our Delivery Policy for full details relating to freight.

Is there a Guarantee on my wine?

Under Australian law, consumer guarantees do not apply to goods purchased at auction - all such purchases are at the risk of the Buyer. We will always provide as much detail as we can as to the visual condition and provenance of each Lot, however this is done so as a guide rather than as a guarantee.
