Review

Along with Te Mata Coleraine this is the best Cabernet blend from New Zealand - from the beautiful Waiheke Island .

The 2022 Larose is the final vintage in this four-year vertical in front of me, and so far, each wine has expressed its own distinct personality, while still being absolutely of the same Larose DNA. Here, the 2022 offers vibrant red fruit, gently grainy/finely milled tannin and a core of redcurrant, cassis, raspberry pip, a hint of nori and layers of dried herbs. I feel that it's more in line with the 2020, and this is a good thing.
The tannins are profuse and pervasive, and it is shaped very much in the manner of a lovely future wine. My only slight quibble hangs over the persistence of fruit, which while vibrant right now, may not have the depth of the 2020, 2021 or 2019. Time will tell. 14.5% alcohol, sealed under cork.
Drink 2024-2037. 94+ Points. Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate.

VINTAGE NOTES

2022 was a season of challenges early but led into a settled warm summer after the fruit set, that gave us wonderful fruit quality across the board. Due to the Spring and early summer being challenging, particularly around the flowering, yields were reduced, and while that has impacted the volume of Larose, the wine is reflective of that small yield with huge concentration. Harvest was the earliest we have ever seen at Stonyridge, with picking wrapped up by the 25th of March.

TASTING NOTES

Larose 2022 is a massive, dense wine of huge power, extraction, and ripeness. The nose is initially perfume of rose and violet, then sandalwood and cedar. A deep vein of black and blue fruits follow and come to the fore after some vigorous swirling in the glass. The palate is opulent and rich, with gently grippy but fine structure and huge length. While it is incredible drinking right now, 2022 Larose will continue to develop in bottle for long period of time, with a drinking window of 5-30 years.

Buying At Auction?

Your Questions, Answered

What do you need from me to get started?

We will need you to confirm that you are over 18 (for obvious reasons!) and to open an account by registering on the site. This will include provision of credit card details for any eventual purchases. You will also need to sign that you have read the terms and conditions.

How many wines are in each Lot?

You will see the quantity (number of bottles) stated above the price. Please note that the bid-price is per bottle so you will need to multiply the price by the number of bottles in the lot to calculate the total price of the lot.

Can I cancel my bid if I change my mind?

All bids are final - please think before you confirm your bid.

How much is the Buyers' Commission?

We have an extremely competitive buyers' commission of 16.5% (GST inclusive). This will be added to the final winning price of your Lot at the end of the auction.

What are your freight charges?

Please see our Delivery Policy for full details relating to freight.

Is there a Guarantee on my wine?

Under Australian law, consumer guarantees do not apply to goods purchased at auction - all such purchases are at the risk of the Buyer. We will always provide as much detail as we can as to the visual condition and provenance of each Lot, however this is done so as a guide rather than as a guarantee.
