"Purity, intensity and finesse – Les Amis is a testament to the persistence of our expert, multi-generational, grape growers and what the greatest terroirs can impart."

Grenache has been a stalwart variety of the Barossa for more than 150 years, ideally suited to the Mediterranean climate and ancient soils.

Sourced from the revigorated soils of western Greenock, the concentration, poise and elegance of this single vineyard Grenache is perfectly balanced and characteristic of this unique terroir.

Les Amis translates from the French as The Friends.

Vintage

The 2021 summer growing season was mild, with even and cool daily temperatures throughout.  Enhanced by good rains provided during the winter and spring of 2020, our vineyards grew wonderful canopies and developed well-formed grape bunches.  As a result of this long flavour development cycle in the vineyard, 2021’s signature is wines of high aromatic lift with densely coloured tints and exceptional balance.

Tasting

Crimson with a brilliant hue. Immediate, aromatic red fruits such as dried raspberry, red cherry, pomegranate, red currant and cranberry. Secondary notes of Chinese five spice, sarsaparilla, star anise, cloves and petrichor, balanced by cinnamon spice and vanilla pod. The palate is sumptuous and decadent with mouth filling fruits, texture and depth finishing with cleansing acidity that elongates the finish. Old vine Grenache from tiny berries
drives complexities giving full-bodied depth with firm but balanced and drying tannins that are firm and grippy and give the wine plenty of time to mature in the cellar for 10-15 years.
Serve at 16c/60F with game meats or charcuterie or Asian roast duck.

Reviews

From vines planted in 1901, fruit aged in 100 per cent new French oak casks finds its balance in its extremities. Fruit moves through shades of cherry and strawberry to ripe currants and cassis, then to the vibrant aromas and tastes of a spice bazaar. Great example of old vine Barossa Grenache.' - 97/100.- Courier Mail, Brisbane, 07 June 2014, by Alan Hunter.

Buying At Auction?

Your Questions, Answered

What do you need from me to get started?

We will need you to confirm that you are over 18 (for obvious reasons!) and to open an account by registering on the site. This will include provision of credit card details for any eventual purchases. You will also need to sign that you have read the terms and conditions.

How many wines are in each Lot?

You will see the quantity (number of bottles) stated above the price. Please note that the bid-price is per bottle so you will need to multiply the price by the number of bottles in the lot to calculate the total price of the lot.

Can I cancel my bid if I change my mind?

All bids are final - please think before you confirm your bid.

How much is the Buyers' Commission?

We have an extremely competitive buyers' commission of 16.5% (GST inclusive). This will be added to the final winning price of your Lot at the end of the auction.

What are your freight charges?

Please see our Delivery Policy for full details relating to freight.

Is there a Guarantee on my wine?

Under Australian law, consumer guarantees do not apply to goods purchased at auction - all such purchases are at the risk of the Buyer. We will always provide as much detail as we can as to the visual condition and provenance of each Lot, however this is done so as a guide rather than as a guarantee.
