History of Château Pavie Macquin
The estate takes its name from Albert Macquin, an agricultural pioneer in the late 19th century who introduced grafting techniques that saved Bordeaux vineyards from phylloxera. Today, the château is managed by Nicolas Thienpont and Stéphane Derenoncourt, two celebrated figures in Bordeaux winemaking.
Terroir and Vineyards
Château Pavie Macquin's vineyards span 15 hectares, situated on the limestone plateau of St. Émilion, offering exceptional drainage and a unique microclimate. The soil composition of clay-limestone and a high-altitude location contribute to the wine's distinctive minerality, structure, and longevity.
Grape Composition (Typical Blend):
- Merlot: ~70%
- Cabernet Franc: ~25%
- Cabernet Sauvignon: ~5%
