One of Australia’s most traditional winemakers, Colin Kay fashions old style, high quality, distinctive Australian reds. The flagship wine, the 2003 Shiraz Block 6 (from 113-year-old vines) is a full-throttle, traditionally made Australian Shiraz boasting a dense plum/garnet/purple colour in addition to a bouquet of creosote, sweet black cherries, cassis, forest floor, underbrush, and pepper. With great depth, full-bodied, powerful, concentrated flavours, high tannin, and a blockbuster finish, this distinctive Shiraz should drink well for 10-15 years.
95 points - Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate
Clean, soft, rounded wine; spice, plums, blackberry and mocha; fine tannins, good balance and length; has consumed the oak. Ultimate retro label; from 1.6 ha of 111-year-old vines. Drink by 2018.
93 points - James Halliday - Australian Wine Companion
Vineyard notes: "The Block 6 vineyard faces east and rows run north south with significant undulation. The vines are cane pruned with the canes wrapped onto the top wire of the low lying trellis. The present 1.5 hectares comprises a corner of red loam, some heavy clay in the middle of the block and gravelly alluvial soils on the lower side. The underlying “South Maslin Sands” geology is extremely complex containing layers of glauconite, limestone, sandstone and siltstone."

Made from 112-year old vines, the wine is dark purple and almost inky.
It's rich and lingering flavours comprise a blend of blackberries balanced with chocolate, pepper, liquorice and smoke.
Buying At Auction?
Your Questions, Answered
What do you need from me to get started?
We will need you to confirm that you are over 18 (for obvious reasons!) and to open an account by registering on the site. This will include provision of credit card details for any eventual purchases. You will also need to sign that you have read the terms and conditions.
How many wines are in each Lot?
You will see the quantity (number of bottles) stated above the price. Please note that the bid-price is per bottle so you will need to multiply the price by the number of bottles in the lot to calculate the total price of the lot.
Can I cancel my bid if I change my mind?
All bids are final - please think before you confirm your bid.
How much is the Buyers' Commission?
We have an extremely competitive buyers' commission of 16.5% (GST inclusive). This will be added to the final winning price of your Lot at the end of the auction.
What are your freight charges?
Please see our Delivery Policy for full details relating to freight.
Is there a Guarantee on my wine?
Under Australian law, consumer guarantees do not apply to goods purchased at auction - all such purchases are at the risk of the Buyer. We will always provide as much detail as we can as to the visual condition and provenance of each Lot, however this is done so as a guide rather than as a guarantee.
