Established in 1975, Château Clinet is one of the most historical vineyards in Pomerol. Located near Lafleur and Pétrus, it covers 11 hectares and is predominantly planted with 88% Merlot, 11.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 0.5% Cabernet Franc. While the late Jean Michel Arcaute and Michel Roland helped elevate Clinet to new levels in the 1990s with later harvests and 100% new oak usage, the property's current owner, Ronan Laborde, has continued to push boundaries through high-density plantings and less new oak, resulting in even more complexity and concentration.

Description: Experience the pinnacle of fine wine with the 2016 Château Clinet, a Grand Cru Classé from the prestigious Pomerol appellation. This exceptional vintage is celebrated for its depth, elegance, and structure, offering an exquisite addition to any wine connoisseur's collection.

Tasting Notes: The 2016 Château Clinet radiates a deep ruby color with a complex bouquet of ripe blackberries, plums, and enticing hints of chocolate and coffee. On the palate, this wine delivers layers of velvety tannins interwoven with vibrant dark fruit flavors, nuanced by subtle earthy undertones and a touch of spice. The finish is long and harmonious, with a lingering taste of fruit and polished tannins.

Vinification: The wine is expertly crafted from predominantly Merlot grapes, with a small percentage of Cabernet Franc, enhancing its complexity and aging potential. The grapes undergo meticulous selection and are vinified with the utmost care to preserve their aromatic richness. Aging in French oak barrels adds a subtle, toasty character that complements the wine’s natural vibrancy.

Ratings and Reviews:

  • Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: 95 points - "A strikingly rich Pomerol with a powerful structure and an impressive depth. The 2016 vintage showcases the estate’s ability to produce a wine that combines power with elegance."
  • James Suckling: 96 points - "Intense and opulent, yet with a classical refinement and a compelling balance of fruit and acidity. One of the standout wines of the vintage."
  • Wine Spectator: 94 points - "This wine exudes complexity with a well-judged balance of fruit and integrated oak, making it a stunning example of Pomerol’s capabilities."
  •  96/100Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider -  "Combines elegance, grace and concentration, with purity and freshness, allowing the silky, lush, chocolate infused, plums and black cherries to shine through all those truffles. Long and complex, with the ability to age for decade, this is not as user friendly as the 2015, so allow it at least a decade to age and develop."

Cellaring Potential: The 2016 Château Clinet is superb now but will continue to evolve gracefully in the cellar over the next two decades, promising even greater complexity and richness with time.
