This wine has come so far in the last few years. Dominique’s more structured Bordelais style has been softened by now head winemaker Ben Portet. In addition the family bought the world’s most respected sorting machines so after hand picking the Cabernet Sauvignon only the best and healthiest grapes make the wine which has taken this wine to new heights of quality. The grapes came from two Yarra Valley sites, both of which are home to mature vines (20+ years) on soils of sandstone over clay. The first, in Coldstream, is the cooler of the two and gives aromas in the red-fruit spectrum. The second site is at Steels Creek on a warm, steep west-facing slope. Aged for 14 months in French oak (40% new).

--------

Dominique Portet was established following 10 consecutive generations of winemaking in the Portet family, stretching back to the 18th century.
Dominique went to start his own dream and established Taltarni in 1976 then later Clover Hill In north-east Tasmania. Ben Portet is now at the winemaking helm and like many Australian born winemakers spent time overseas to experience other terroirs including vintages at Louis Roederer and Warwick Estate in South Africa.

Buying At Auction?

Your Questions, Answered

What do you need from me to get started?

We will need you to confirm that you are over 18 (for obvious reasons!) and to open an account by registering on the site. This will include provision of credit card details for any eventual purchases. You will also need to sign that you have read the terms and conditions.

How many wines are in each Lot?

You will see the quantity (number of bottles) stated above the price. Please note that the bid-price is per bottle so you will need to multiply the price by the number of bottles in the lot to calculate the total price of the lot.

Can I cancel my bid if I change my mind?

All bids are final - please think before you confirm your bid.

How much is the Buyers' Commission?

We have an extremely competitive buyers' commission of 16.5% (GST inclusive). This will be added to the final winning price of your Lot at the end of the auction.

What are your freight charges?

Please see our Delivery Policy for full details relating to freight.

Is there a Guarantee on my wine?

Under Australian law, consumer guarantees do not apply to goods purchased at auction - all such purchases are at the risk of the Buyer. We will always provide as much detail as we can as to the visual condition and provenance of each Lot, however this is done so as a guide rather than as a guarantee.
