Château Smith Haut Lafitte, from the Pessac-Léognan appellation, is recognized for its Grand Cru Classé status as of the 1959 classification.

The 2008 vintage is a Bordeaux blend predominantly featuring Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. It is known for its structured tannins and balance, exhibiting classic notes of tobacco, cassis, dark cherry, and leather, along with a distinctive minerality

The wine is described as full-bodied, with a complex nose featuring cassis, black cherries, tobacco, and spice. It possesses a layered palate that reveals flavors of cassis and black cherries with hints of chocolate and char, offering a long finish and great balance. It's still slightly young but approachable, with potential to age well for the next decade or more.

The wine highly, noting its oaky, tobacco, and vanilla characteristics, alongside blackberry and earthy notes such as leather and smoke. It's suggested that this wine pairs well with robust dishes like beef and venison.

Review: 93/100 - Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider

On the nose the oak is still noticeable, from there you move on to the truffle, smoke, black cherry and dark chocolate notes. Full bodied, concentrated, the tannins are soft, the texture is round, the fruits are sweet, but there is some oak remaining in the finish that needs to further integrate. The wine was made from blending 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. The wine reached 13.5% alcohol.

Your Questions, Answered

What do you need from me to get started?

All bids are final - please think before you confirm your bid.

We have an extremely competitive buyers' commission of 16.5% (GST inclusive). This will be added to the final winning price of your Lot at the end of the auction.

What are your freight charges?

Please see our Delivery Policy for full details relating to freight.

Is there a Guarantee on my wine?

Under Australian law, consumer guarantees do not apply to goods purchased at auction - all such purchases are at the risk of the Buyer. We will always provide as much detail as we can as to the visual condition and provenance of each Lot, however this is done so as a guide rather than as a guarantee.
