Château Smith Haut Lafitte - Grand Cru Classé 2019
- Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: 97 points
Introduction:
Introducing the exceptional 2019 vintage from Château Smith Haut Lafitte, a testament to the art of fine winemaking. This Grand Cru Classé showcases a masterful blend, delivering a wine that is both profoundly rich and elegantly poised. Celebrated for its superior quality and craftsmanship, this vintage continues the château’s legacy of excellence.
Blend and Origin:
The 2019 Château Smith Haut Lafitte is a meticulously crafted blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. Originating from the renowned Pessac-Léognan appellation, the grapes are harvested from vineyards that are treated with the utmost care to ensure sustainability and environmental harmony.
Vinification:
Each varietal is vinified separately in state-of-the-art facilities, utilizing both traditional and innovative techniques. The wine undergoes fermentation in wooden vats followed by extended maceration to enhance depth and complexity. It is then aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, with a significant portion being new, to imbue it with a subtle, integrated oak character.
Tasting Notes:
The 2019 vintage presents an opulent ruby color with violet hues. On the nose, it offers a lavish bouquet of blackberry, cassis, and dark cherries, complemented by hints of vanilla, sweet spices, and a touch of graphite. The palate is rewarded with a full-bodied experience, layered with lush fruit flavors, refined tannins, and a lingering finish that echoes notes of fruit and spice.
Critical Acclaim:
